We're currently looking for a Planner to join our Planning team in Leicester. This is a key role within the operation, ensuring our driver and vehicle resources are deployed effectively to meet customer requirements while maintaining compliance with all relevant driver legislation and working time regulations. We'll reward your hard work with a salary of up to £30,500 and a comprehensive benefits package, including 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, the option to buy additional days, company pension, cycle to work scheme, high street discounts and a range of other benefits.

What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Plan and manage driver and vehicle resources to meet customer requirements efficiently
  • Review daily manning levels and resource availability across the shift
  • Confirm driver start times and maintain accurate planning system updates
  • Ensure compliance with Working Time Directive (WTD) and Drivers' Hours legislation
  • Monitor vehicle utilisation and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Track and control trailer movements and equipment allocation
  • Communicate effectively with drivers to ensure service and performance targets are achieved
  • Work closely with Operations, Customer Service and other internal teams to resolve service issues
  • Investigate late or failed deliveries and provide root cause information where required
  • Monitor reports highlighting driving performance and operational inefficiencies
  • Complete shift reporting, handovers and end-of-shift checks accurately and on time
  • Support dispatch and debrief activities as required by the operational management team

What you need to succeed at XPO:

  • Good knowledge of Drivers' Hours regulations and Working Time Directive requirements
  • Strong understanding of UK geography and road networks
  • Previous transport planning or logistics experience would be advantageous
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Good administration and numeracy skills
  • Confidence working with planning and operational systems
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across teams
  • Effective time management and the ability to prioritise workloads
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational challenges
